Winter Holidays and a collection of quotes
Dear all,
I apologize for this break in posting but the winter holidays and my applications to the PhD are taking their toll.
For now, a circle of savants at the OilDrum have composed a long thread composed of single all-defining quotes from different points of view, some humorous some grave but all fascinating.
Some samples with the kudos to the authors

My favorite quote of the year
goes to Westexas sometime last week when he finally couldn't take it
anymore:
What part of the impossibility of an exponential growth rate in a
finite world do you people not understand?
Sums it up very well!..."

Someone already mentioned
my favorite by T.S. Elliot, so here are a few of my runners-up:
Einstein:
Reality is merely an illusion, albeit a very persistent one.
H.L. Mencken: An
idealist is one who, on noticing that a rose smells better than a cabbage,
concludes that it will also make better soup.
Arthur Schopenhauer: Every man
takes the limits of his own field of vision for the limits of the world...."Happy New Year to everybody! And a bright future and a clear past to all the people on this globe.
